Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is used to fight bacterial infections in dogs and cats. It can be used to treat infections such as leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, mycoplasma, psittacosis, and tick borne diseases including lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and rocky mountain spotted fever. Doxycycline is an antibiotic that attaches to cell parts of the bacteria and prevents the bacteria to grow and divide. Treatments using Doxycycline are usually long term due to the bacterial infection. If missed dose occurs, give the missed dose as soon as you remember, then try to evenly space the rest of the doses for that day until you can return to a normal schedule. Do not give a double dose unless otherwise directed.
