What Customizations Are Available on the Garmin TT25?
The Garmin TT25 is one of the most versatile tracking and training collars on the market, offering a wide range of customizable options to fit your specific needs. Whether you're running small game dogs or large hounds, the TT25 can be tailored to match your hunting style, dog size, and terrain. Below is a breakdown of all the customizable features:
Flex Band Options
You can choose from multiple collar band styles based on your dog’s size and hunting conditions:
Zero Length Short Flex Band: Offers the smallest fit possible, reducing the neck size needed to almost nothing. Ideal for small breeds like rabbit beagles, Mountain Feists, Boykins, terriers, and puppies—but still fits large breeds comfortably.
Standard Flex Band: The default band included with the TT25, recommended for most users. It fits a wide range of dog sizes and provides a balanced mix of comfort and durability.
Rugged Flex Band: Built for extreme conditions such as hog, bear, and cat hunting. Offers extra durability for harsh environments where collar damage is more likely.
Battery Pack Options
The TT25 features a modular battery system, allowing you to swap out battery packs to suit your runtime needs:
Standard Battery Pack: Comes with all TT25 and TT25 Mini collars. Offers up to 68 hours of dynamic tracking runtime. Suitable for all dog sizes.
Extended Battery Pack: Sold separately for users needing longer runtime. Provides up to 136 hours of use—ideal for multi-day hunts. Best used on medium to large dogs due to added weight and size.
Strap Customization
You can swap out the collar strap itself to change colors, fit different neck sizes, or match existing gear. Available in a wide variety of colors and materials.
Antenna Options
The TT25's GPS antenna and VHF antenna can also be replaced or upgraded. You can choose between different antenna lengths to improve range or reduce snagging, depending on your terrain and hunting style.
Modular Design
All of these components—flex bands, battery packs, straps, and antennas—are designed to be easily swappable. No special tools are required, making in-field changes quick and convenient.
In Summary
From battery life and band size to antenna type and strap color, the TT25 can be customized to fit everything from a small terrier to a rugged hound. Whether you're hunting rabbits or tracking bears, there's a setup that’s just right for your dogs and your gear.
Yes, the Garmin TT25 collar is waterproof.
It is rated IPX7, which means it can withstand accidental submersion in water up to 1 meter (about 3.3 feet) for up to 30 minutes. This makes it safe for use in rain, wet brush, creeks, swamps, and other environments where your dog may get soaked.
Key Waterproofing Notes:
What Is Dynamic Update Rate?
Dynamic Update Rate is a smart feature on the Garmin TT25 that automatically adjusts how often the collar updates your dog’s location based on their movement.
This helps extend battery life without sacrificing accuracy when your dog is active.
How to Set It Up
On your Garmin handheld (like the Alpha 300, Alpha 200i, or Alpha 100):
1. Go to your Dog List.
2. Select your TT25 collar.
3. Open “Tracking Settings” or “Update Rate.”
4. Choose the option labeled “Dynamic.”
5. Confirm and save.
Note: Wording may vary slightly depending on your handheld model.
When to Use It
Use Dynamic Update Rate when:
You want longer battery life without constant updates.
You’re on a long hunt or multi-day trip.
Your dogs stop and rest often.
You don’t want to manually change the update rate during the day.
It’s ideal for most hunters and dog handlers unless you need updates every few seconds for high-speed tracking.

Once connected, Garmin Express will recognize the collar and display its current firmware version.
Check for Updates.
Garmin Express will tell you if a software update is available and walk you through installing it.
Tip:
Using Garmin Express is a great option if your handheld isn’t available or you want to ensure everything is fully up to date before a hunt.
How Long Does the TT25 Battery Last?
Battery life depends on the update rate and which battery pack you’re using:
Tips to Extend Battery Life
Use Dynamic Update Rate
This is the #1 way to extend battery life. It automatically slows updates when your dog is resting and speeds them up when they’re moving.
Avoid Using Fast Fixed Update Rates (Like 2.5 Seconds)
These drain the battery faster because they constantly transmit. Choose 5 or 10 seconds, or use Dynamic when possible.
Turn Off Unused Features
Makes sure things like collar lights are off when not in use to conserve battery life.
Fully Charge Before Use
Make sure the battery is fully charged before heading out. Partial charges can limit runtime.
Keep Software Updated
Garmin occasionally releases firmware updates that improve battery efficiency.
Store Properly When Not in Use
If you’re storing the collar for an extended time, power it off completely and recharge every few months to keep the battery healthy.
What Size Dogs Do the Garmin TT25 Collars Fit?
The Garmin TT25 collar is built to fit a wide range of dog sizes—from small hunting dogs to large working breeds.
The TT25 Mini can fit necks as small as 7 inches, making it ideal for very small dogs and puppies.
The standard TT25 fits neck sizes from approximately 9 inches up to 24 inches, depending on the strap and band style used.
Both versions can fit any neck size, but for dogs with necks larger than 24 inches, you may need to purchase a longer custom strap separately to ensure a proper and secure fit.
Works well for:
Small breeds: like rabbit beagles, Mountain Feists, Boykins, terriers, and puppies
Medium to large breeds: like hounds, retrievers, and curs
Customizable Fit Options:
Choose from Zero Length, Standard, or Rugged Flex Bands
Swap out straps for different lengths, materials, or colors
Bottom Line:
From 7" necks on tiny terriers to 24"+ necks on big hounds, the TT25 and TT25 Mini collars offer a flexible, customizable fit for nearly every dog.

Dog tracks on the Garmin Alpha XL are colored lines that show each dog’s path on the map in real time. Each dog has a unique color, making it easy to track multiple dogs and see where they've been. This is helpful for spotting patterns, retracing steps, or checking how far a dog has traveled.
You can customize how long tracks stay visible by selecting from No Tracks, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or showing all. These settings help keep your map clean or provide full trail history. Track lines can also be turned on or off in the map or dog setup settings.
How To Turn On/ Off and customize dog tracks- To change how long dog tracks show on your map in the Alpha XL, start by going to Setup in the bottom right corner of the main menu. Then select Dog Tracking, followed by Dog Tracks on Map. From there, you can choose how long you want the tracks to stay visible—options include Show None, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or Show All. This setting helps you control how much trail history shows up on your map during a hunt.Dog Track Time Frame Options – What They Mean and When to Use Them
Show None – Turns off dog tracks completely. Great if you prefer a clean map with no track lines.
5–10 Minutes – Ideal for handlers running multiple dogs. It gives a quick view of where each dog has recently been and where they’re heading—without cluttering the screen.
30 Minutes – A balanced option for those with several dogs. It offers more trail history than 10 minutes but still keeps the display manageable.
1–2 Hours – Perfect for users with fewer dogs. These settings show a good overview of your dog’s movement patterns over a couple of hours and help you track their path without overwhelming the screen.
Show All – Keeps all dog tracks on the map until you start a new hunt. This is a great option for those running just a few dogs who want to see the full history of the hunt.
Bonus Tip:
Even if you choose a shorter track time (like 5 or 10 minutes), don’t worry—you can still view the full track for each dog in your Track Manager. The Alpha XL records the complete path, so you won’t lose any tracking data. It just keeps your map view cleaner while still saving everything in the background.

What Is Rescue Mode on the Garmin TT25 Collar?
Rescue Mode is an automatic battery-saving feature that activates when your TT25’s battery gets low. It changes the collar’s update rate to 2-minute intervals to conserve power and help you keep tracking your dog longer.
Tip:
If you have a lost or unreachable dog, we recommend manually putting the collar in Sleep Mode instead. Sleep Mode saves significantly more battery than Rescue Mode and helps preserve power until the dog comes back into range.
Steps To Put A TT25 in Rescue Mode
4. Select Rescue Mode
Select rescue mode and this will automatically put your collars into a rescue mode until it is turned off following the same steps.
Sleep Mode on a Garmin TT25 Collar is a power-saving feature designed to extend battery life when the collar is not actively being used. Instead of turning the collar off completely, you can place it into sleep mode to pause GPS tracking and communication with the handheld—while still keeping the collar ready to wake back up quickly.
The collar pauses location reporting and tracking functions.
It won’t update or respond to commands until reactivated.
Ideal when you're not using the collar for several hours or overnight.
Steps To Put a TT25 Collar In Sleep Mode
4. Select Sleep Mode
Select sleep mode and this will auto put your collar into sleep mode. This feature will not be turned off until you follow the same steps and turn it off.
If the interfering collar is yours (like a newly purchased or backup collar), then it’s safe to resolve the conflict by changing the ID—but the handheld will do this automatically as long as you follow the proper steps.
Steps to Add a New Collar Without Interference:
1. Make sure all your current collars are turned on and active.
This is critical so your handheld can detect their IDs and avoid conflicts during setup.
2. On your handheld, go to: Dog List > Add Dog.
3. Choose how you want to add the collar:
4.When prompted, select “Track Both Devices.”
This tells your handheld to automatically change the new collar’s ID to something unique and non-conflicting.
Once added, the new collar will work alongside your other collars without tracking issues or ID interference.
If you try to add a TT25 that’s already assigned to someone else’s handheld and you get the message:
“The new collar ID conflicts with [Dog Name].”
You will have two options:
Add the collar but do not track it right now
The collar will be added to your dog list as inactive. You won’t receive location updates until you choose to activate tracking later.
Track the new collar
This will activate the new collar, but your handheld will deactivate the other dog’s collar that shares the same ID (you’ll lose tracking on that collar unless its ID is changed or reset).
⚠️ Do not proceed unless you’re 100% sure whose collar it is and that it’s safe to override your other dog’s data.
What to Do if a TT25 Collar is Jumping Between Locations or Showing Incorrect Tracking
If your TT25 collar appears to be “jumping” between different locations on the map or is showing a spot where your dog clearly isn’t, the issue is most likely due to collar ID interference.
This happens when two collars in the area are using the same collar ID. Your handheld may be receiving signals from both devices, causing it to mix up the location data—leading to confusing or incorrect tracking.
How to Fix It
To solve this, you’ll need to assign a new collar ID to your TT25. This ensures your handheld and collar use a unique signal that doesn’t overlap with any others nearby.
⚠️ IMPORTANT:
Do NOT change the collar ID while your dog is on the ground or out in the field.
If you change the ID while the dog is active and someone else is using a collar with the same ID, both of you could lose tracking entirely. Always wait until your dog is back in your possession and the collar is safely in hand.
Steps to Change the Collar ID:
What It Means if a TT25 Collar Has Lost Communication
If your TT25 shows “Lost Communication,” it means your handheld is no longer able to connect with the collar. This stops all tracking, battery updates, and command functions (like tone, vibrate, and LED). It’s as if the handheld can no longer “see” or “hear” the collar at all.
Why It Happens
1. Bring the Collar Closer
Move toward the last known location of the dog. If the collar is simply out of range or under terrain blockage, getting closer may restore signal.
2. Check the Battery
If you suspect the collar battery has died, power it back on or charge it as soon as you have the collar in hand. You can’t get communication if the collar is off or out of power.
3. Turn It Off and Back On
Once the collar is in your hands, power it down completely, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. A quick restart can fix minor issues or reconnect a dropped signal.
4. Inspect the Antennas
6. Try Another Handheld
If you have access to another compatible handheld, try pairing the collar to it. This helps confirm if the problem is with the collar or the original handheld.
6. Update the Firmware
Use Garmin Express or a compatible handheld to check for updates. Communication bugs are sometimes fixed in newer versions.
7. Factory Reset the Collar (Last Resort)
If everything else fails and you have the collar in hand, you can try a factory reset. This clears all settings and restores the collar to default—but should only be done after confirming the issue isn’t hardware-related.
What It Means if a TT25 Collar Has Lost GPS
If your TT25 shows “Lost GPS,” it means the collar isn’t receiving satellite signals. This stops it from tracking your dog’s location or updating its position on your handheld.
Why It Happens
Fixes to Try
1. Take it Outside
Make sure the collar is in an open area with a clear view of the sky. GPS signals can be blocked by metal, buildings, dense tree cover, or even being inside a vehicle or dog box.
2. Wait 5–10 Minutes
After powering on, give the collar time to reacquire satellites—especially if it was just restarted, charged, or moved a long distance (like traveling in a vehicle while powered off). It’s normal for it to take a few minutes to lock back onto satellites.
3. Turn it off and back on – A quick reboot may fix the issue. Once the Collar Is in your hands turn it off and let it restart to see if that fixes the issue.
4. Inspect The GPS Locator/ Flexband- Make sure there is no nicks, rips, tears, bite marks, etc in the GPS Flex Band. If this is the case the Band is most likely permanently broken and will need replacement.
5. Update the Firmware
Outdated software can lead to glitches. Use Garmin Express on a computer or pair the collar with a compatible handheld that can push firmware updates. Updated firmware often fixes bugs that affect GPS performance.
6. Try a Different Handheld
If you have access to another Garmin handheld (like a different Alpha or Astro model), pair the collar to it temporarily. This helps determine if the issue is with the collar itself or your main handheld.
7. Factory Reset the Collar (Last Resort)
If nothing else works, you can do a factory reset. This will remove all settings, clear memory, and return the collar to default. Only use this step if you've tried everything else, and back up any data you need before doing it.
This means the collar itself is turned on and connected to the handheld, but it cannot determine its location because it’s not receiving signals from GPS satellites.

Rugged Flex Band for Garmin TT25 – Overview
What it is:
A heavy-duty replacement band for the Garmin TT25 dog collar. It's made for dogs that work or train in rough conditions.
Key Benefits:
Why You’d Use It:
Perfect for hunting dogs in rough terrain or heavy cover. Highly recommended for people hunting hogs, bears, cats, and other game where collars are more likely to get caught, chewed, or damaged. It’s built to last and helps protect your TT25 from unnecessary wear or failure.
Zero Length Short Flex Band for Garmin TT25 – Overview
What it is:
A compact band option for the Garmin TT25 collar that has virtually no extra strap length—it holds the tracking unit snug to the dog’s neck with the smallest footprint possible.
What it does:
This band makes the overall neck size needed to fit the TT25 almost nothing, making it the absolute best option for smaller dogs. It's a great choice for rabbit beagles, Mountain Feists, Boykins, terriers, puppies, and more. Even though it's ideal for small breeds, it still works just fine on larger dogs too.
With no extra slack or long straps, the collar stays clean, tight, and low-profile. The minimal design also helps reduce the chances of the strap getting caught in brush or chewed on by other dogs.
Why you’d use it:
If you’re working with small dogs or want the most compact setup possible, this band gives you the tightest fit available—shrinking the collar’s required neck size to nearly zero.
Standard Flex Band for Garmin TT25 – Overview
What it is:
The standard flex band is the default band included with the Garmin TT25 collar. It’s a balanced, all-purpose option designed to fit a wide range of dog sizes comfortably and securely.
What it does:
This band offers a flexible yet durable fit that works well for most hunting and working dogs. It provides enough strap length to adjust easily on medium to large breeds while still being slim enough for some smaller dogs. The material is rugged enough for regular field use but not as heavy-duty as the rugged flex band.
It’s a great middle-ground choice—easy to adjust, lightweight, and reliable for everyday use. This is the recommended option for most standard use cases where no extreme conditions or specialized needs are involved.
Why you’d use it:
Perfect if you want a standard, no-fuss setup that works for most dogs out of the box. Whether you're running hounds, retrievers, or general-purpose hunting dogs, the standard band is a dependable and comfortable option.
Standard Battery Pack for Garmin TT25 – Overview
What it is:
The standard battery pack is the default power option included with all Garmin TT25 and TT25 Mini collars. It’s designed to provide a reliable balance of battery life and weight, making it ideal for dogs of all sizes—from small breeds to large hounds.
What it does:
This battery pack gives you up to 68 hours of runtime in dynamic tracking mode, depending on usage and update settings. It offers excellent longevity for regular hunts, tracking sessions, and day-to-day use without adding extra bulk or weight to the collar.
Because it's the standard size, this is the battery included with both the full-size TT25 and the smaller TT25 Mini collars. It fits securely and maintains the collar’s low-profile, ergonomic design, making it comfortable for dogs of all sizes.
Why you’d use it:
Perfect for hunters and trainers who want dependable battery life without adding weight. Whether you're running small dogs like Feists or Beagles or larger breeds like hounds or retrievers, the standard battery pack is the right fit for all.
Extended Battery Pack for Garmin TT25 – Overview
What it is:
The extended battery pack is an optional power upgrade for the Garmin TT25 collar. It’s designed for users who need maximum battery life in the field, especially during long hunts, multi-day trips, or when recharging between uses isn't always convenient.
What it does:
This pack increases your collar’s runtime up to 136 hours in dynamic tracking mode—double the life of the standard battery pack. It gives you significantly more time between charges, which is ideal for extended tracking sessions or when running multiple dogs over several days.
While it does add a bit more weight and bulk than the standard pack, it’s still designed to mount seamlessly onto the TT25 and remain balanced and secure. It’s best suited for medium to large dogs due to the added size.
Why you’d use it:
Great for serious hunters and trainers who are out in the field for long periods and need extended performance. If you need more time between charges and don’t want to risk running out of power mid-hunt, the extended battery pack is your go-to option.

How to Remove or Change the Prongs on a TT25 Collar
What You'll Need:
Steps:
Power Off the Collar
Identify the Prongs
Unscrew the Old Prongs
Choose and Install New Prongs (Optional)
Double Check Fit and Contact

Tips:
1. Start at the GPS Locator End
Try pushing the strap by hand through the plastic GPS locator.
If that’s difficult, use a flathead screwdriver to gently wedge under the strap and lift it until you can slide it out. This works the same way as pulling it out by hand.
2. Feed Through the GPS Flex Band
Continue removing the strap by sliding it through the rest of the GPS flex band and the antenna keeper. After this step, the strap should only be threaded through the TT25 base unit.
3. Remove from the TT25 Base Sections
Use your flathead screwdriver to get under the strap in the first section of the TT25 base—right between the beginning of the collar base and the first small plastic divider.
Gently wedge the tool under and pull the strap up and out.
The smaller the sections you work through, the easier and safer it is to remove the strap without damaging anything.
Repeat this process for each remaining section until only the buckle end is holding the strap. Pull the strap completely out from there.
Clean the Unit (Optional but Recommended)
Take a damp sponge or rag and clean the collar thoroughly.
This step not only gives the collar a fresh look but also helps the new strap glide through more smoothly.
Make sure the collar is fully dry before reinstalling the strap.
Start Opposite the GPS Flex Band
Work Through Each Section
Finish the Feed
