Trade Ins

Outdoor Dog Supply is the leader when it comes to the Garmin Tri-Tronics Trade In Program.  We were one of the first Garmin Dealers to start accepting Garmin buyback trade-ins toward purchases.

URGENT UPDATE ON TRADE IN PROGRAM (July, 1st 2026)

Due to a policy change implemented by Garmin effective July 1, 2026, Outdoor Dog Supply is no longer able to accept non-working Garmin equipment as trade-ins.

This is not a change we wanted to make, but because of Garmin's new policy and our inability to obtain reliable replacement parts to repair many out-of-warranty units, we have had to discontinue accepting broken Garmin equipment on trade-in.

If your Garmin equipment is not working properly, our technical support team is still happy to help troubleshoot your equipment just as we always have at 757-482-1000. However, if your equipment is out of warranty and requires replacement, you will need to contact Garmin Product Support directly at 1-800-800-1020 to request a refurbished replacement unit for any eligible equipment that Garmin continues to service.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support as we adapt to these changes.

Not Acceptable

Non-Working Garmin Equipment

Due to Garmin's policy changes effective July 1, 2026, we are no longer able to accept most non-working Garmin equipment for trade-in. Because we no longer have access to Garmin's refurbishment program and cannot obtain reliable replacement parts for many out-of-warranty models, we have had to discontinue broken trade-ins on most devices.

We are still accepting the following standard-size non-working collars for trade-in credit:

  • TT15
  • TT15X
  • T5
  • T5X
  • At this time, all other non-working Garmin models are not eligible for trade-in credit. If your equipment is out of warranty and Garmin still services the model, please contact Garmin Product Support at 1-800-800-1020 to discuss your refurbishment options.

“Beep beep” collars are not accepted in any condition.

We also do not accept any equipment that has been skunked.

If you send in non-working equipment that we do not accept, or you choose not to move forward with the trade-in, you will be responsible for return shipping costs.

Trade-In Equipment Classification

How We Determine “Working” vs. “Broken”

Outdoor Dog Supply inspects all trade-in equipment to ensure consistent and fair evaluations. The guidelines below explain how we classify equipment as either Working or Broken.

Working Collar Qualifications

To be accepted at working value, a collar must meet all of the following standards:

1. Complete Internal Components

The collar must include all essential internal parts, including (but not limited to):

  • Battery
  • GPS band
  • Collar housing
  • Screws
  • Antenna plate
  • Other necessary internal components

2. Fully Functional

All primary features must operate normally, including:

  • Communication
  • GPS tracking
  • Battery performance within normal standards
  • LED lights
  • Correction features
  • Tone and vibration functions
  • Charging functionality

3. Include Complete Charger

To receive full working value, equipment should be submitted with a complete charger set. A complete charger includes:

  • Charging Clip
  • Charging Cable
  • Wall Plug

Equipment submitted without a complete charger may receive a reduced trade-in value.

Bonus Credit for Extra Chargers: Additional complete charger sets may qualify for extra trade-in credit. Charger sets must include all three components listed above to be eligible.

4. Resellable Condition
The collar must be in a condition suitable for resale, with no major wear or damage. This includes no:

  1. Bite marks, chew marks, deep scratches, cuts, cracks, or other significant damage
  2. Dry rot on the GPS band
  3. Excessive dirt or extreme filth
  4. Strong odors (such as cigarette smoke or skunk) that cannot be removed

A good rule of thumb is that the collar should be in a condition you would personally consider acceptable if purchasing it used.

Equipment Considered Broken

A collar may be classified as broken even if it powers on. Equipment will be considered broken if it has any of the following issues:

Functional Issues
  • No communication or inconsistent communication
  • No GPS or inconsistent GPS tracking
  • No ability to tone, vibrate, or correct
  • Lights not working
  • Not charging
  • Blinking red on the charger
  • Not turning on
Physical Damage
  • Cuts or slices in the GPS band
  • Dry rot on the GPS band
  • Dry-rotted or missing buttons
  • Holes, bite marks, chew marks, cracks, severe cuts, or other structural damage
  • Broken charging ports
  • Broken screen
  • Broken antenna port
Missing Components
  • Missing housing
  • Missing screws
  • Missing GPS band
  • Missing battery
  • Missing internal components
Additional Notes
  • Straps, prongs, and antennas may be removed without affecting trade-in value.
  • Equipment that does not meet working standards will be no longer be accepted
  • Final trade-in classification and pricing decisions are made at Outdoor Dog Supply’s discretion.
  • The examples listed above represent the most common issues, but are not the only reasons an item may be classified as broken.

If you are unsure whether your equipment will qualify as working or broken, please contact us before sending it in.

How Does The Program Work?

To get started, contact us at 757-482-1000. Let our team know what equipment you would like to trade in and what item you are interested in purchasing. We will review the details and provide you with a trade-in quote.
If you choose to proceed, please print and complete the trade-in form and include it inside your shipment.

Please note that all trade-ins are evaluated on a component-for-component basis. If you are trading multiple pieces of equipment but purchasing fewer items in return, a price adjustment may apply.

Example: If you trade in 8 collars and purchase 8 collars, the trade value applies evenly. However, if you trade in 8 collars but only purchase 6 collars, the trade-in credit will adjust accordingly.

Our team will be happy to explain how this applies to your specific trade during your quote call.

Note: If we are unable to reach you after 60 days and multiple contact attempts, we will issue store credit to your Outdoor Dog Supply account. If you do not already have an account, one will be created using the information you provided and the credit will be applied there.

Speed Up Your Trade-In

At Outdoor Dog Supply, we work hard to process and return trade-ins as quickly as possible. To help ensure the fastest turnaround time, please complete the following steps before shipping your equipment:

To ensure the fastest possible turnaround, please complete the following before shipping your equipment:

  • Include a completed trade-in form or a detailed note with your name, phone number, address, what you are trading in, its condition (working or non-working), and what you plan to purchase.
  • Bag and label any non-working equipment separately.
  • Fully charge all equipment and include chargers. Uncharged items may add 3–5 business days to processing time.
  • Clean all equipment (remove dirt, mud, hair, etc.). Excessively dirty or skunk-odor items may be refused or receive a reduced quote. Return shipping for refused items is the customer’s responsibility.
  • Remove straps, map cards, and any accessories you wish to keep. We are not responsible for returning used accessories. Leaving them attached may delay processing by 1–3 business days.

Following these steps helps us process your trade-in quickly and efficiently.

After completing your trade-in form, you have two options:

Option 1: Send Equipment First

Ship your trade-in equipment to our office and include your completed trade-in form in the box. Once we receive and inspect your items, we will contact you to confirm the final trade-in value based on condition and working status. If any remaining balance is due, payment will be collected at that time. We will then process your new order and ship it out.

Option 2: Order First (No Downtime)

If you prefer not to wait, you may place your new order through our store first. After receiving your new equipment, send your trade-in items to us along with the completed trade-in form. Once your trade-in is received and inspected, we will issue a refund for the trade-in credit back to your original payment method.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 757-482-1000.
