Sometimes it is important to back up the data from your Alpha or Astro. If you need to do a Master Reset but don’t want to lose your dog tracks, waypoints, or tracks follow these steps. You will need to download Garmin BaseCamp, if you have not already done so you can do it here:

How To Backup User Data

Step 1: Connect your device to your computer using the provided USB cord. The cord has a Standard USB on one end and a Mini USB on the other. The Mini USB goes into the slot at the back of the handheld or DriveTrack. The Larger USB plugs directly into your computer. This port may be on the back or front of a standard computer, or on the sides of a laptop. Some new laptops may not have a standard USB port. If it asks to ender“BaseCamp Mode”select No.

Step 2:Open BaseCamp and wait for your device to show up on the left

Step 3:Right-Click on the folder – usually called“Internal Storage”– that is right below your GPS device. SelectCopy.

Step 4:Right-Click on My Collection, selectPaste.

Step 5:Wait for the data to finish transferring, then right-click on the folder below the device and select Eject.

To restore User Data back to your device:

Step 1: Repeat Step 1 & 2 above

Step 2: Right-Click on My Collection, select Copy.

Step 3: Right-Click on the folder – usually called “Internal Storage” – that is right below your GPS device. Select Paste.

Step 4:Wait for the data to finish transferring, then right-click on the folder below the device and select Eject
